Self Drive Tours

There are a wide variety of self drive tours radiating out from Peterborough to surrounding towns and areas. The drives can be obtained at the Peterborough Visitor Information Centre. All of the tours start at the Post Office in the Main Street. There are other self drive tours in the process of being developed.

Terowie Trek
This trip will take you past the site of Lancelot; a town that was supposed to be where the junction of all the railway lines were meant to meet. However Peterborough developed and Lancelot died as a result of it. This trip will then take you down to the Historic Town of Terowie where you will explore the town and then make your way back to Peterborough. The total length of this trip is 65km.

Orroroo
This trip is 89km in length and takes you to the town of Orroroo and back. It involves a self drive tour of Orroroo, then back to Peterborough via BlackRock.

Dares Hill
For this trip you will have to drive down to Hallett which is about 55km south of Peterborough and then start the drive from there. The Dares Hill Drive takes you out amongst the station country. There is a spectacular look out at Dares Hill which is about 27km into the trip. You will then make your way through the bushland back towards Terowie and then Peterborough.

Northern Scenic Drive
Apart from 12km, this trip is on gravel roads and is 100km in length. You will travel out to Dawson which is a Ghost Town, then through the scrubland to a lookout which gives you great views of the BlackRock Plains. Then onto Magnetic Hill and back to Peterborough.
