At Dragons Rest you will see a collection of extremely hardy plants, along with “pockets of indulgence”. Situated in a semi-arid zone, Peterborough has freezing winters, scorching summers, and minimal rainfall.
Our 10-acre garden provides food, shelter and water for local birds, lizards, frogs, various insects and ourselves. Bearded dragon lizards breed in the garden and are often seen on warm days, especially in Spring.
Bare paddocks are gradually being transformed with a diverse range of plants including eucalypts, eremophilas, acacias, callistemon, saltbush, conifers and grasses.
Fancy bearded irises provide a rainbow of colour in Oct/Nov. Sheltered in a large shade-house are bold and bright cannas and less hardy plants.
Other features include ‘The Dragon Garden’, scrap metal creatures, ponds, gazebo, topiary and the extensive Kitchen Garden.
Come and stroll through our garden, sit on our home-made redgum seats and share the peace and tranquillity.
Admission is $5 per person. School-age children are free but must be accompanied by an Adult.
Open most days, from 8.30am
