It can be an interesting experience walking around a cemetery. You can learn a lot about the history of a town just by reading the headstones. The District Council of Peterborough controls six cemeteries in its district. They are Peterborough, Yongala, Nackara, Lancelot, Dawson and Oodlawirra. The records of the cemeteries are on a computer which can be accessed through the Public Library in the High School Grounds. The Library is open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12 noon on Saturdays. There is a history room in the library that is useful if you are looking for old photos or information on the area. It is also possible to view copies of the original Peterborough Times newspaper up until the early 1950s on microfilm.
