Home    Take a Walk Through Our Cemeteries
Take a Walk Through Our CemeteriesIt can be an interesting experience walking around a cemetery. You can learn a lot about the history of a town just by reading the headstones. The District Council of Peterborough controls six cemeteries in its district. They are Peterborough, Yongala, Nackara, Lancelot, Dawson and Oodlawirra.

The records of the cemeteries are on a computer which can be accessed through the Public Library in the High School Grounds. The Library is open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 12 noon on Saturdays.

There is a history room in the library that is useful if you are looking for old photos or information on the area. It is also possible to view copies of the original Peterborough Times newspaper up until the early 1950s on microfilm.

A local resident is in the process of producing headstone photo disks, for each of the individual cemeteries, containing photographs of all the headstones. At present five cemetery disks have been completed and can be purchased at the Peterborough Information Centre or on-line direct from the author, with all profits going to the Peterborough Tourist Association and the Peterborough History Group. To purchase on-line please use the following link: Peterborough District Cemeteries Disks.
